Late Model Victory, Robin Darnell Takes A-Plus Painting Spring
Renegade Championship
By Tony M. Suttles
Gary
Greenwood Jr. picked up an improbable victory Friday night April 13,
2007 in the 50 lap special Late Model race ran at the Anderson Motor
Speedway. Greenwood Jr., driving Ralph Carnes’ back up car, bypassed
Ralph Carnes on lap forty nine and led the final lap and claimed the
official victory. Ralph Carnes led the first lap of the race but was
bypassed by Marty Ward on lap two. Ward led the next twenty one laps
before Carnes regained the lead on lap twenty three. Ward closed on
Carnes on lap thirty three and tried to regain the lead but was unable
to get completely by Carnes. By lap thirty seven Greenwood had closed
on the top two and placed himself in contention for the victory. As
the three began to battle for the lead on lap thirty nine Ward made
his move and regained the lead. The following lap Carnes regained the
lead once again as he bypassed Ward once again. A couple laps later
while Greenwood battled Ward for the second position Ward lost control
of his car and spun in turn two. On lap forty five Greenwood closed
on Carnes’ bumper. Then on lap forty nine just prior to the white
flag dropping on the race Greenwood bypassed Carnes for the lead spot
and held on to lead the final lap of the race to capture the official
victory. Ralph Carnes finished second. Marty Ward finished third. R
A Brown finished fourth. Brad Burdette finished fifth.
Robin
Darnell led every lap of the special A Plus Painting Spring Renegade
Championship race and collected the official victory in the twenty
five lap race. Numerous cautions during the race kept the field
bunched up closer than it would have been as Darnell easily pulled
away from the remainder of the competition following each restart and
was never pressured during the race. Dale Walker finished second. Chad
Watt finished third. Gary Greenwood Sr. finished fourth. Jim Reynolds
finished fifth.
Seventy
year old Whitey Suttles claimed his first victory of the season in the
Super Renegade division driving the Suttles’ Rentals, Pressure Washing
Plus Chevrolet. Suttles grabbed the lead on the first lap of the race
and pulled away to a comfortable margin before a caution at the half
way mark of the race eliminated his margin. For the second half of the
race Suttles incurred anything but comfort as he was pressured
repeatedly by Barry Tollison and Brian Beckner. But Suttles’
experience proved true as he was able to keep the two behind him the
remainder of the race to secure the official victory. Barry Tollison
was pressured by Beckner for the second position the final lap of the
race but Tollison held on to take the position. Brian Beckner finished
third. Anthony Cordell finished fourth. Dale key finished fifth.
Trey Gibson and Austin Northcutt put on
a show in the Young Guns race with Gibson holding on to take his first
victory of the season. Although Gibson led at the end of each lap and
was officially credited with leading every lap he was passed twice
during the race by Northcutt. Northcutt bypassed Gibson on lap ten as
the two entered turn one but Gibson regained the lead in turn two.
Then on lap thirteen Northcutt took the lead again in turn one but he
spun in front of Gibson as he exited turn two. Gibson hit Northcutt in
the side of the car and straightened Northcutt up and got up to speed
quicker and regained the lead once again. Following the second
incident Gibson led the final laps and took the victory unchallenged.
Austin Northcutt finished second. Austin Aker finished third. Brandon
Moore finished fourth.
Scott Hamby bypassed Henry Vaughn for
the second position on lap ten of the B-Mini Stock race and then
proceeded to run down Mark Timmerman and take the lead on lap sixteen
of the race and then led the final four laps of the race to take the
official victory. Mark Timmerman led the first fifteen laps of the
race and finished in the second position. David Darnell finished
third. Henry Vaughn finished fourth. Eric Sargent finished fifth.
Justin Ashley claimed the overall
victory and the Semi Pro victory in the 600 Legends race. Rob Hall led
the first four laps with Ashley and R S Senter all over him. On lap
four Ashley made a bid for the lead wherein he and Hall made contact.
As the two fought to regain control of their respective cars Senter
grabbed the lead position with Kevin Eskew moving into the second
position. Eskew held the second position the next six laps with
numerous cars pressuring him during the period. On lap eleven Ashley
bypassed Eskew for second with Wesley Thompson immediately moving to
the third position on the same lap. On lap sixteen Ashley grabbed the
lead position from Senter and held off a last lap charge from Thompson
to take the victory. Wesley Thompson finished second and claimed the
victory in the Pro portion of the race. John Gallman finished third.
Rob Hall finished fourth. R S Senter finished fifth.
Michael York led every lap and claimed
the official victory in the C-Mini Stock race. Chad Stewart held the
second position the first five laps of the race but failed to pressure
York for the lead. Brandon Hendricks bypassed Stewart on lap six and
held the position the remainder of the race but he also failed to
close on York for the lead position. Hendricks finished second. Ben
Kay finished third. Chad Stewart finished fourth. Tony Barnes finished
fifth.
