David Darnell Grabs B-Mini Stock
Victory, Brandon Moore Victorious
In Young Guns Race
By Tony M. Suttles
David
Darnell grabbed the lead as soon as the green flag dropped on the
B-Mini Stock race held at the Anderson Motor Speedway on Friday night
March 30, 2007 and led every lap of the race to pick up his first
victory in numerous years. A familiar face at the Anderson Motor
Speedway in the late nineties and early two thousands Darnell has been
absent for several years. Darnell returned this season and appeared to
be one of the cars to beat in the season opener but experienced a
mechanical problem. Darnell proved he will be a force to be reckoned
with this season as he led every lap of the race and claimed the
official victory. Mark Timmerman cut Darnell’s lead in half from lap
eight to lap fifteen but failed to make a serious challenge for the
lead because the closest Timmerman came to Darnell was about three car
lengths. Mark Timmerman finished second. Wayne Hammond finished third.
Jason Black finished fourth. Joey Harris finished fifth. Attrition
took a big toll on the B-Mini Stock cars as half the field dropped out
of the race before the half way mark.
Brandon
Moore grabbed the lead on lap three of the Young Guns race and held
off a late charge from Austin Northcutt to secure his first official
victory of the season. Trey Gibson grabbed the lead at the start of
the race and appeared to be the driver to contend with. But at the end
of lap one Gibson’s car sputtered and Brandon Moore tapped him in the
rear. As Moore and Gibson struggled to regain control of their cars
Northcutt grabbed the lead. Northcutt leading the race was short lived
as Moore battled by him on the third lap. Moore pulled away from
Northcutt until lap ten when Northcutt began to reel him back in. By
the last lap the two were bumper to bumper and Northcutt made a
serious bid out of turn four on the final lap but Moore held him at
bay to secure the victory. Austin Northcutt finished second. Austin
Aker finished third. Trey Gibson finished fourth.
Barry Tollison led every lap of the
Super Renegade race as he claimed his second official victory in a
row. Whitey Suttles and Bryan Beckner battled for the second position
early in the race with Suttles finally grabbing the position on the
third lap. For the next several laps Suttles began cutting into
Tollison’s lead until the two encountered lapped cars. Tollison moved
through the lapped cars easily while Suttles got tangled up which cost
him almost all the distance he had gained on Tollison. Once both
cleared the lapped cars Suttles began closing on Tollison once again
but before he could catch Tollison the race ended. Tollison took the
victory. Whitey Suttles finished second. Bryan Beckner finished third.
Brandon Chandler finished fourth. Ryan Lockwood finished fifth.
Chad Watt led every lap of the
Renegade race as he also claimed his second victory in a row with his
official victory in the Renegade race. It didn’t appear that Watt led
every lap of the race but he actually did. As the race started Justin
Cone made a daring move and forced himself under Watt and Dale Walker
in turn one and made it three wide. As the three exited turn two Cone
appeared to lead the race. Cone held the ‘lead position’ the first two
laps before he was passed by Watt and Walker on lap three. When a
caution came out at the end of the lap it was announced that Cone was
scored one lap down due to the fact that he made a pass to the left
side of the field before he crossed the start finish line when the
race originally started. Therefore Watt had actually led the first two
laps. Watt went on to lead every lap and take the official victory.
Dale Walker held the second position throughout but failed to press
Watt for the lead. Dale Walker finished second. John Kelly finished
third. Al Stokes finished fourth. Mike Shaw finished fifth.
Zack Dillon led every lap of the
C-Mini Stock race as he claimed the official victory. Brandon Hendrix
ran side by side with Dillon on laps two and three but soon dropped
back. Hendrix closed in on Dillon later in the race but a caution
appeared which sealed the deal for Dillon. Following the caution
Dillon got a big jump on the field and led the remaining laps to
secure the victory. Brandon Hendrix cut back into Dillon’s advantage
before the race ended but failed to get close enough to challenge for
the lead. Brandon Hendrix finished second. Michael York finished
third. Ben Kay finished fourth. Chad Black finished fifth.
Four drivers contended for the victory
in the Legends race with chance playing a important part in the race.
Max Gresham and Wesley Thompson battled the first lap of the race with
Gresham claiming a slight advantage at the finish line at the end of
lap one. On lap two Thompson took the lead position away from Gresham.
By lap three Justin Ashley had placed himself in the mix. Ashley
battled by Gresham on lap five to move into the second position. Then
on lap eight Austin took the lead from Thompson but Thompson retook
the lead on lap nine. As Thompson began to pull away Austin and
Gresham began to battle for the second position once again. On lap
fifteen Gresham spun in turn two which brought out a caution.
Unfortunately for Wesley Thompson, whom was leading when the caution
appeared, a bolt had come out of his rear bumper and it was dragging
on the track and he was sent to the pits. Thus Justin Ashley grabbed
the lead position. John Gallman took the second position and pressured
Austin the final laps of the race and made a bid for the victory as
the two exited turn four but Ashley held him at bay to secure the
overall official victory and the victory in the Semi Pro portion of
the race. John Gallman finished second. RS Senter finished third.
Jerry Rector finished fourth and claimed the victory in the Masters
portion of the race. Wesley Thompson came from the rear to finish
fifth and take the victory in the Pro portion of the race.
Randy Bryant led every lap of the B-M
modified race as he claimed the official victory. Chuck Mitchell
finished second. Tim Smith finished third. Bryant, Mitchell, and Smith
ran bumper to bumper the majority of the race but neither Mitchell nor
Smith challenged for a higher position. Will Ragsdale finished fourth.
Frank Williams finished fifth.
In bicycle races Joshua Shaw won the
2-4 year old race, Madison Greer won the 5-6 year old race, William
Allen won the 7-9 year old race, and Tyler Free won the 10-12 year old
race.
