By Tony M. Suttles
Bryan Beckner claimed the official victory in the
twenty five lap, $300 to win Spring Championship Talking 'Phonebook
Renegade' race ran at the Anderson Motor Speedway
on Friday night May 2, 2008. The victory was the first of the season
for Beckner. Chris Whitfield led the first three laps
of the race but had his hands full of Bryan Beckner the entire time.
On lap four Beckner took the lead position away from Whitfield. Once
out front Beckner set sail and took the victory by almost half a
straight away. Chris Whitfield finished second. Shawn Campbell
finished third. Jim Skinner finished fourth. Kevin Shaw, Jr finished
fifth. Jody Trivette crossed the finish line in the third position but
failed to pass post race inspection.
Earl
Young claimed the official victory in the Super Renegade race. Sam
Roberts and Zack Lane battled the first two laps before Roberts cut a
tire down and dropped off the pace. Lane took over the lead with Earl
Young moving into the second position. Lane led until lap fourteen
when he began to slow and Young over took him and took over the lead
position. Once out front Young led the final six laps and received the
checkered flag. The victory was the first of the season for Young in
the Super Renegade division. Barry Tollison Jr. finished second. Steve
Beacham Sr. finished third. Zack Lane finished fourth. Sam Roberts
finished fifth.
Wayne Hammond claimed the official victory in the
B-Mini Stock division. The victory was the first victory in ten years
for Hammond and his first ever in the B-Mini Stock division. Hammond
led every lap of the race on his way to the victory. Mark Timmerman
held the second position the majority of the race but by the time he
moved to the position Hammond had over a five car length advantage.
Initially it appeared Timmerman was cutting into Hammons advantage but
in the end Hammond won by at least five car lengths. Mark Timmerman
finished second. David Darnell finished third. Brad Burdette finished
fourth. Scott Hamby finished fifth.
Dylan Ames claimed the official victory in the 600
Legends Semi Pro race. For the first week of the season the 600
Legends drivers competed in two separate races . In the first race
only Semi Pro drivers competed for the victory. This proved to be a
great decision since the race was full of action and had leaders
before the victor was determined. On the first lap Ronnie Bassett jr
and Davey Matthews ran side by side but before the end of the lap
Kevin Eskew made it three wide and grabbed the lead by a nose at the
end of lap one. On lap two Matthews and Eskew ran side by side and
they crossed the line dead even at the end of lap two. On lap three
Matthews finally took the lead position from Eskew and Eskew dropped
back allowing Bassett jr to retake the second position on lap four.
Matthews had a car length advantage on lap six but it was dwindled
away by Matthews whom over took Bassett on lap eight to take the lead.
Soon after relinquishing the lead Matthews dropped off the pace and
Austin Hill resumed the charge for the lead position. Hill battled
Matthews a couple of laps and grabbed the lead on lap eleven when
Matthews spun. Matthews moment at the front was short lived as he was
passed on lap thirteen by Dylan Ames. Once out front Ames was able to
get a decent advantage which was aided when several drivers began to
battle for the second position. This battle behind him allowed Ames to
pull away and lead the next seven laps and take the victory. Kevin
Eskew finished second. Michael Brown finished third. Austin Hill
finished fourth. Ronnie Bassett Jr finished fifth.
Parker Hammons claimed the official victory in the 600
Legends Pro-Masters race. In the second 600 Legends race Pro drivers
and Masters drivers competed together. Jordan Anderson grabbed the
lead at the start of the race with Hammons and Jerry Rector in tow
directly behind him. Hammons led the first thirteen laps but
relinquished the lead to Hammons on lap fourteen. But Anderson turned
around and regained the lead on lap fifteen. The two ran nose to tail
the next three laps and then the inevitable occurred. There was
contact between the two on lap eighteen and Anderson spun. Hammons
regained the top position and held it the final two laps to secure the
victory. Anderson moved from the rear and crossed the finish line in
the second position but failed post race inspection. Hammons claimed
the overall victory and the victory in the Pro Class. Jerry Rector
finished second and claimed the victory in the Masters class. Wesley
Thompson finished third. Randy Dilling finished fourth. Larry Friddle
finished fifth.
Austin Northcutt claimed the official victory in the
C-Mini Stock division. Northcutt led every lap of the race on his way
to the victory. Brandon Hendrix moved to the second position on the
fifth lap of the race but trailed Northcutt by at least five car
lengths by the time he took the position. At first it appeared Hendrix
was cutting into Northcutt’s advantage but by lap ten the distance
between the two was the same and at the end Northcutt won by about
five car lengths. Brandon Hendrix finished second. Chad Black finished
third. Jack Kelley finished fourth. Kayla Pritchett finished fifth.
Austin Aker claimed the official Young Guns victory.
The Young Guns competed with the C-Mini Stock division and Aker
finished fourth overall in the race on his way to the Young Guns
victory. Dylan Wages finished second. Avery Burgess finished third.
Chuck Mitchell claimed the official victory in the B-M
Modified race. Mitchell led every lap of the race on his way to the
victory. Jock White held the second position throughout the race and
ran close to Mitchell the first half of the race and fell off the pace
the second half of the race. Jock White finished second. Matt Meyer
finished third. Jeffrey Kummer finished fourth. Shawn Mize finished
fifth.
