By Tony M. Suttles
Austin Hill claimed the official victory in the 600
Legends race ran at the Anderson Motor Speedway on Friday
night
May 9, 2008. Ronnie Bassett Jr. grabbed the lead as soon as the green
flag dropped. Wesley Thompson moved to the second position on lap two
and Austin Hill took over the third position on lap four. From laps
seven till eleven Thompson ran nose to tail with Bassett Jr. but
failed to get past him. On lap thirteen Austin Hill bypassed Thompson
to move into the second position. Hill was a couple of car lengths
behind the leader when he moved to the second position. But by lap
sixteen Hill had made up the distance and bypassed Bassett Jr. for the
top position before the end of the lap. Once out front Hill pulled
away from Bassett Jr. and led the final five laps of the race and
claimed the overall victory and the victory in the Pro portion of the
race. Ronnie Bassett Jr. finished second. Wesley Thompson finished
third and claimed the victory in the Pro portion of the race. John
Gallman finished fourth. Larry Friddle finished fifth and claimed the
victory in the Masters portion of the race.
Austin
Aker claimed the official victory in the Young Guns race. The Young
Guns drivers competed along with the C-Mini Stock drivers and Aker
grabbed the lead in the duo race as soon as the green flag dropped.
Once out front Aker pulled away and led every lap of the race and took
the overall victory and the Young Guns victory. RJ West finished
second. Avery Burgess finished third.
Chad Black claimed the official victory in the C-Mini
Stock race. Chad Stewart held the second position in the combo race
and crossed the finish line in the second position and appeared to be
the C-Mini Stock victor. But Stewart failed to pass post race
inspection and the victory was awarded to Chad Black whom finished
third overall in the race. Kayla Pritchett finished second. Terry
Muckey finished third.
Jock White claimed the official victory in the B-M
Modified race. White led every lap of the race on his way to the
victory. Chuck Mitchell moved to the second position on lap six and
was closing a little on White but it didn’t appear that he would make
a run on White. Then a caution appeared on lap eleven which bunched
the field together. The first lap following the caution Mitchell ran
with White but by the next lap he dropped off White’s pace. Chuck
Mitchell finished second. Casey Tucker finished third. Shawn Mize
finished fourth. Matt Meyer finished fifth.
Scott Hamby claimed the official victory in the B-Mini
Stock race. Mark Timmerman grabbed the lead position as soon as the
green flag dropped on the race but his tenure at the front was short
lived. On lap two Hamby bypassed Timmerman to take the lead and Wayne
Hammond moved to the second position before the second lap was
complete. Hamby led the next couple of laps with Hammond all over him.
On the fifth lap Hammond over took Hamby and grabbed control of the
lead. The two remained one two the remainder of the race with Hammond
receiving the checkered flag. Following the race Hammond refused to
pull his car down and the victory was awarded to Hamby. Mark Timmerman
finished second. David Darnell finished third. Chad Campbell finished
fourth. Ben Kay finished fifth.
Barry Tollison Jr. claimed the official victory in the
Super Renegade race. Sam Roberts led every lap of the race with
Tollison Jr. pressing him the last couple of laps. Tollison Jr. made a
last lap attempt to overtake Roberts but Roberts held him off at the
finish line. Following the race Roberts failed to pass the post race
inspection and the victory was awarded to Tollison Jr. Zac Lane
finished second. Earl Young finished third. John Shaw Jr. finished
fourth.
Shawn Campbell claimed the official victory in the
Renegade race. Chris Whitfield grabbed the lead as soon as the green
flag dropped on the race. Bryan Beckner moved to the second position
on the second lap of the race. On lap three the top two cars were
bumper to bumper and virtually glued together. For the next eight laps
each time Beckner tried to make a move to bypass Whitfield Whitfield
would readjust his line and close the door on Beckner. Finally on the
twelfth lap Beckner made a move and got beside Whitfield. At the end
of the lap the two were dead even at the line. Then at the end of lap
thirteen Beckner had a narrow advantage and had taken the lead in the
race. For the final two laps Beckner and Whitfield ran almost side by
side and at the finish line Beckner had a half car length advantage
and received the checkered flag. But the two cars made contact
following the checkered flag and spun in turn one. Following the
incident the two drivers decided to bumper tag each other and this
resulted in both getting disqualified. The third place finisher, Shawn
Campbell, was awarded the victory. Jim Skinner finished second. Mike
Shaw finished third.
Kyle Hicks claimed the official victory in the Banana
race.
