Campbell Takes ‘Talking Phone Book’ Renegade Victory
By Tony M. Suttles
Randy
Porter claimed the official victory in the Brown Motorsports (B-M)
Modified race ran at the Anderson Motor Speedway on Friday night June
13, 2008. Porter grabbed the lead as soon as the green flag dropped on
the race and held the top position throughout the fifteen lap race.
Chuck Mitchell pressed Porter a couple of times before the two made
contact and Mitchell had to get off the gas which allowed Jeffrey
Kummer to move to the second position. Porter pulled away from Kummer
and took the victory by about four car lengths. Jeffrey Kummer
finished second. Chuck Mitchell finished third. Corey Gibson finished
fourth. Casey Tucker finished fifth.
Shawn
Campbell claimed the official victory in the ‘Talking Phone Book’
Renegade race. Campbell led every lap of the race and easily
outdistanced the remainder of the field. Bryan Beckner and Chris
Whitfield battled repeatedly during the race allowed Campbell to pull
away even further than he may have anyhow. By the time Beckner took
control of the second position Campbell had a half a straight away
advantage which was insurmountable. Bryan Beckner finished second.
Chris Whitfield finished third. Jim Reynolds finished fourth. Chad
Watt finished fifth.
Earl Young claimed the official victory in the Super
Renegade race. Zac Lane grabbed the lead as soon as the green flag
dropped on the race. On lap five Whitey Suttles made a bid for the
second position which was held by Earl Young. The steering rod broke
on Suttles’ car and he hit Young’s rear quarter panel and eventually
hit the wall. This brought out the caution. Suttles stated, “I regret
that I got into Young’s car but actually if he hadn’t been there I’d
probably have hit the other wall and destroyed my car.” While under
caution Lane’s car stalled on the track and he had to have assistance
to get the car restarted. Therefore Young was placed at the front of
the field with Eddie Henderson moving to the second position and Lane
dropped to the third position. Following the restart Young grabbed a
large advantage and held it till the end of the race. Lane moved past
Henderson into the second position but the laps ended before he made a
dent into Young’s lead. Zac Lane finished second. Eddie Henderson
finished third. Whitey Suttles finished fourth. Sam Roberts finished
fifth.
Scott Hamby claimed the official victory in the B-Mini
Stock race. Hamby and David Darnell battled side by side the first two
laps of the race with Darnell nailing down the lead position on lap
three. But Darnell’s time at the front was short lived as he was
passed by Hamby on the seventh lap. Once out front Hamby pulled to a
five car length advantage and held it the remainder of the race. Chad
Campbell moved to the second position on lap thirteen but failed to
cut into Hamby’s advantage. Chad Campbell finished second. David
Darnell finished third. Stanley Thompson finished fourth. Zack Dillon
finished fifth.
Wesley Thompson claimed the overall victory and the
victory in the Pro portion of the 600 Legends race. Three different
drivers led the race before a victor was determined. Thompson and John
Gallman battled side by side the first two laps with Gallman taking
over the lead on the third lap with Jerry Rector following him and
taking over the second position. On lap four rector pressed Gallman
and took the lead away from him on the fifth lap. On lap seven Gallman
went back by Rector to retake the lead and Wesley Thompson came with
him to move into the second position. Thompson battled with Gallman on
lap eight and took over the lead on lap nine. On lap ten Gallman and
Thompson battle once again with Gallman regaining the lead on lap
eleven. On lap thirteen Thompson bypasses Gallman once again to move
back to the front and this time he nails down the position. Thompson
pulls away by a couple of car lengths and holds the advantage till the
end of the twenty lap race. Jerry Rector retakes the second position
on lap fourteen but fails to maintain Thompson’s pace and fails to
press Thompson the remainder of the race. Jerry Rector finished second
and claimed the victory in the Masters portion of the race. John
Gallman finished third and claimed the victory in the Semi Pro portion
of the race. Larry Friddle finished fourth. Randy Gunton finished
fifth.
Chad Stewart claimed the official victory in the C-Mini
Stock race. Stewart led every lap of the race on his way to the
victory. Stewart grabbed the lead at the end of the first lap
following a side by side battle with Jack Kelley the first lap.
Stewart quickly pulled to a three car length advantage and held it
until a caution appeared on lap eighteen. On the restart Stewart
jumped to a quick car length advantage over Austin Northcutt and held
it the final two laps to seal the victory. Austin Northcutt finished
second. Chad Black finished third. Brandon Hendrix finished fourth.
Jack Kelley finished fifth.
Avery Burgess was the official victor in the Young Guns
division. The Young Guns competed along with the C-Mini Stock division
and Burgess finished seventh overall and was the top finishing Young
Guns driver. RJ West finished second among the Young Guns drivers.
Austin Aker finished third amongst the Young Guns drivers.
