Championship Race, Suttles Grabs Season First Super Renegade Victory
By Tony M. Suttles
Chad
Black claimed the official victory in the twenty lap C-Mini Stock
Summer Championship race ran at the Anderson Motor Speedway on Friday
night June 20, 2008. Black and Chad Stewart battled the first lap of
the race with Black grabbing the lead down the back stretch. Once out
front Black held the lead every lap of the race and picked up the
victory. Stewart ran close to Black until lap eighteen when Austin
Northcutt made a bid to overtake him for the second position. This
battle allowed Black to pull away by a couple of car lengths at the
end of the race. Chad Stewart held Northcutt off to finish second.
Austin Northcutt finished third. Brandon Hendrix finished fourth. Jack
Kelley finished fifth.
Whitey
Suttles claimed the official victory in the Super Renegade race.
Suttles and Zac Lane battled side by side the first two laps of the
race before Suttles took control of the lead on the third lap. Once
out front Suttles pulled to a car length advantage and held it till
the end of the race. Seventy one year old Suttles became the sixth
different driver to claim a victory this season in the Super Renegade
division. Zac Lane finished second. Earl Young finished third. Eddie
Henderson finished fourth. Sam Roberts finished fifth.
Scott Hamby claimed the official victory in the B-Mini
Stock race. David Darnell grabbed the lead in the race as soon as the
green flag dropped on the race and by lap five he had a two car length
advantage over Brian Powell Sr. when a caution appeared. On the
restart Darnell got a car length jump over Powell but as the field
entered turn three the top two were bumper to bumper. As the two
exited turn three there was contact between the two and Darnell spun
gathering up Chad Campbell with him. Unfortunately Campbell was unable
to continue while Darnell and Powell were placed at the rear of the
field. Scott Hamby found himself in the right place at the right time
and inherited the lead position following this incident. Once out
front Hamby pulled to a comfortable advantage over Ben Kay and held it
the remainder of the race. Mark Timmerman came from the rear and
bypassed Kay on the final lap to finish second. Ben Kay finished
third. Jeff Bruce finished fourth. Trey Gibson finished fifth.
Jeffrey Kummer claimed the official victory in the B-M
Modified race. Kummer and Chuck Mitchell battled the first lap with
Kummer taking the lead for good on lap two. On lap three Mitchell
almost hit the wall and dropped out of the race. Once Mitchell left
the race Kummer pulled to a half straight away advantage over Corey
Gibson and held it throughout the race. Corey Gibson finished second.
Casey Tucker finished third. Chris Barnes finished fourth. Alan
Mitchell finished fifth.
Shawn Campbell claimed the official victory in the
Renegade division. Campbell and Barry Tollison Jr. battled the first
lap with Tollison taking the lead at the end of the lap. But
Tollison’s time out front was limited because Campbell immediately
resumed the battle for the lead on lap two and at the line the two
were virtually even. On lap three Campbell took over the lead and once
he moved to the front he thoroughly out classed the field. Campbell
pulled to a half a straight away advantage by the half way mark and
won by over half that advantage. Barry Tollison Jr. finished second.
Chris Ingle finished third. Jim Reynolds finished fourth. Chad Watt
finished fifth.
Devin Jones claimed the overall victory and the victory
in the Semi Pro portion of the 600 Legends race. On the first attempt
to start the race several of the front cars got tangled together
heading into turn two with Jones being one of them. Due to the damage
on the rear of his car Jones had to go to the pits and therefore had
to start the race at the tail of the field. On the second start of the
race RS Senter and John Gallman battled the first lap with Gallman
taking the lead at the end of the lap and Wesley Thompson moving to
the second position. On lap three Thompson bypassed Gallman for the
lead position and brought Senter with him into the second position. On
lap five Gallman moved back to the second position but by this time
Thompson was beginning to pull away. On lap six Jones became part of
the mix when he moved to the third position. On lap seven Jones
bypassed Gallman and moved to the second position. On lap nine Jones
closed on Thompson and bypassed him on lap ten. Once out front Jones
held the lead the final half of the race and received the checkered
flag. Wesley Thompson finished second and claimed the victory in the
Pro portion of the race. RS Senter finished third. John Gallman
finished fourth. Jerry Rector finished fifth and claimed the victory
in the Masters portion of the race.
The Young Guns drivers competed along with the C-Mini
Stock drivers and Avery Burgess claimed the official victory. Burgess
ran as high as fifth before finishing in the sixth overall position.
Austin Aker finished second amongst the Young Guns drivers. RJ West
finished third.
