Thompson claimed the official victory in the twenty five lap 600
Legends Summer Championship race ran at the Anderson Motor Speedway on
Friday night June 7, 2008. Thompson had his hands full throughout the
race before he received the checkered flag. Thompson grabbed the lead
as soon as the green flag dropped but he had company immediately. Drew
Brown glued his car to the rear bumper of Thompson by the end of the
lap and John Gallman glued his car to rear bumper of Brown’s before
the end of the lap. The three ran nose to tail the first eighteen laps
and pulled away from the field. On lap nineteen Brown dove under
Thompson and took over the lead. But Brown’s tenure at the front was
short lived. On lap twenty one Gallman and Thompson both went for the
lead and the cars were three wide. This forced Brown to slow and
Thompson went by him on lap twenty two and regained the lead. Then on
lap twenty three Gallman went by Brown to take over the second
position. Gallman immediately went after Thompson and ran nose to tail
with him the final two of the race but failed to get a nose under him.
Thompson claimed the overall victory and the victory in the Pro
portion of the race. John Gallman finished second and claimed the
victory in the Semi pro portion of the race. Andrew Brown finished
third. Jerry Rector finished fourth and claimed the victory in the
Masters portion of the race. Randy Dilling finished fifth.
Mark
Timmerman claimed the official victory in the B-Mini Stock race. Scott
Hamby grabbed the lead as soon as the green flag dropped on the race
and led the race until the final lap when he and Wayne Hammond got
bumpers hung together and Mark Timmerman moved by the top three and
led the final half lap and took the victory. Hamby grabbed an early
advantage while several cars battled their way to the front. On lap
three Chad Campbell moved to the second position but by this time
Hamby had a good five to six car length advantage. Although it
appeared that Campbell was cutting into Hamby’s lead lap by lap it was
evident he would not catch him if the race went green throughout.
Wayne Hammond had to start on the rear and although he moved to third
on lap fourteen he could not get to the leader by the end of the race.
Then a caution appeared on lap seventeen. This bunched the field
together and it was a new ball game so to speak. Hamby didn’t get a
big jump on the restart and Campbell and Hammond were right there with
him. At the end of lap nineteen Campbell came out of turn four real
fast and as he battled to gather his car under himself Hammond went by
him. Hammond immediately went after the leader as the two headed down
the front stretch. As Hamby entered turn one Hammond went for the lead
and the two cars hung up bumpers. The two slowed and Campbell had to
slow to avoid them. This allowed Mark Timmerman whom was running
fourth at the time to drive around the top three cars. Once out front
Timmerman led the final lap and took the victory. Scott Hamby and
Hammond’s bumpers came unlocked and the two quickly returned to top
speed and crossed the finish line second and third respectively.
Following the checkered flag there was contact between Hammond and
Hamby and Hamby spun. Trey Gibson had no where to go and hit Hamby’s
car. Due to the after race incident Hammond was disqualified. David
Darnell finished third. Ben Kay finished fourth. Zack Dillon finished
fifth.
Cory Gibson claimed the official victory in the B-M
Modified race. Chad Parries grabbed the lead on the first lap of the
race with Gibson and Chuck Mitchell battling for the second position
immediately. Parries led the race until the sixth lap when he was
bypassed by Gibson and Mitchell. Gibson and Mitchell resumed their
battle for the next two laps before Gibson nailed down the position
for good. Mitchell pressed Gibson the final lap but over drove and
dropped off Gibson’s pace before the checkered flag dropped. The
victory was the first career B-M modified victory for Gibson. Chuck
Mitchell finished second. Alan Mitchell finished third. Chris Barnes
finished fourth. Tasha Kummer finished fifth.
Greg Jarrett claimed the official victory in the Super
Renegade race. Jarrett and Sam Roberts battled side by side the first
two laps of the race before disaster struck. As the two battled into
turn three the tires on their cars made contact and by virtue of the
contact Roberts’ car was shot toward the outside wall. Roberts’ car
hit the wall and rolled onto its top. Following the incident Jarrett
took over the lead for good. He led the remainder of the race and
claimed his first career Super Renegade victory. Eddie Henderson
finished second. Zack Lane finished third. Earl Young finished fourth.
David Lewis finished fifth.
Ken Dillard claimed the official victory in the
Renegade race. Mark Sullivan led the first lap of the race with Ken
Dillard all over him. On lap two Dillard bypassed Sullivan and took
over the lead. Once out front Dillard led the remainder of the race
and picked up his third victory in a row. Bryan Beckner and Shawn
Campbell moved to second and third respectively on lap three. Bryan
Beckner and Shawn Campbell battled repeatedly for the second position
which kept the pressure off the leader. Each time one of the two took
over the second position they would press Dillard for a lap and then
the other of the two would make a move for the second position. The
two ran within striking distance of the leader throughout the race but
neither of the two were able to get under Dillard before their battle
for second resumed. Bryan Beckner finished second. Shawn Campbell
finished third. Mark Sullivan finished fourth. Jim Reynolds finished
fifth.
Austin Northcutt claimed the official victory in the
C-Mini Stock race. Northcutt led every lap of the race on his way to
the victory. Northcutt had pulled to a good advantage over the field
by lap three and held it throughout the caution free race. Chad
Campbell finished second. Kayla Pritchett finished third. Tony Barnett
finished fourth. Terry Mulkey finished fifth.
Austin Aker claimed the official victory in the Young
Guns race. The Young Guns drivers competed along with the C-Mini Stock
drivers and Avery Burgess held the lead the first lap of the race by
holding onto the fifth overall position. On lap two Austin Aker took
over the top Young Guns position when he battled past Burgess. Aker
went on to finish fourth overall in the race and take the Young Guns
victory. Avery Burgess finished second. RJ West finished third.
Gavin Simmons won the 2-4 year old bicycle race. Thomas
Zakrewski won the 5-6 year old bicycle race. AJ Carr won the 7-9 year
old bicycle race. Josh Beemster won the 10-12 year old bicycle race.
Donnie McAnelli won the adult bicycle race.
