Ralph
Carnes from Anderson, South Carolina claimed the victory in the
Thomas Concrete, RS Trucking sponsored Georgia Asphalt Series
“Upstate 100” Late Model race ran at the Anderson Motor Speedway on
Friday night July 18, 2008. Ralph Carnes was the fastest qualifier
for the race with a time of 15.697 seconds. The Georgia Asphalt
Series rolls a dice and inverts the field based on the number
rolled. Carnes rolled a six and therefore the top six cars were
inverted for the start of the race. Ryan Sieg from Tucker, Georgia
took the lead as soon as the green flag dropped on the race but his
time at the front was short lived. Randy Porter from Easley, South
Carolina bypassed Sieg on lap two and took over the top spot. Ralph
Carnes moved to the second position on the eleventh lap of the race.
For the next forty laps Carnes ran nose to tail with Porter and
finally over took him on lap fifty two. Once out front Carnes led
the remaining forty eight laps virtually unchallenged and picked up
his first victory of the season. Randy Porter finished second. Joey
Senter from Jefferson, Georgia finished third. TJ Reaid from
Acworth, Georgia finished fourth. Blair Addis from Greenville, South
Carolina finished fifth. These results are unofficial until post
race inspection is complete. Official results can be obtained on the
G.A.S. website.
Brandon
Hendrix claimed the official victory in the C-Mini Stock race. Chad
Black led the first two laps before Hendrix took the lead away from
him on the third lap of the race. Once out front Hendrix led the
remainder of the race and took the checkered flag. Chad Black
finished second. Jack Kelley finished third. Chad Stewart finished
fourth. Kayla Pritchett finished fifth.
Avery Burgess claimed the official Young Guns
victory. The Young Guns drivers competed along with the C-Mini Stock
drivers. Austin Aker finished fourth overall but failed post race
inspection therefore Avery Burgess was declared the official winner.
RJ West finished second.
Jordan Anderson claimed the official victory in the
600 Legends race. Anderson picked up the overall victory and the
victory in the Pro Class. Steven Ross grabbed the lead as soon as
the green flag dropped on the race and held the lead until lap
eight. At the end of lap eight Anderson bypassed Ross and took over
the lead position. On lap nine Ross tried to regain the top spot but
dropped into line behind the leader. Ross pressed Anderson
repeatedly and on the final lap of the race he made his last attempt
to overtake him and made contact with Anderson. The contact caused
Ross to have to get off the gas and Wesley Thompson passed him to
move into the second position. Steven Ross finished third. Andrew
Brown finished fourth and claimed the victory in the Semi pro Class.
Davey Matthews finished fifth. Jerry Rector finished sixth and
claimed the victory in the Masters Class.
Wayne Smith claimed the official victory in the
B-Mini Stock race. Brian Powell Sr. led every lap of the race and
received the checkered flag but following the race Powell failed
post race inspection. Mark Timmerman bypassed Wayne Smith in the
final turn of the final lap of the race in order to cross the finish
line in the second position. But Timmerman also failed post race
inspection. Wayne Smith crossed the finish line in the third
position and was declared the official victor of the race after the
top two failed post race inspection. Scott Hamby finished second.
Chad Campbell finished third. Ben Kay finished fourth. Timmy Graham
finished fifth.
Barry Tollison Jr. claimed the official victory in
the ‘Talking Phone Book’ Renegade race. Mike Childers made his first
appearance of the season to the Anderson Motor Speedway and led
every lap of the race and received the checkered flag. Barry
Tollison Jr. battled with several drivers during the race and
finished in the second position. Following the race Childers failed
post race inspection and the victory was awarded to Tollison. Chris
Whitfield finished second. Bryan Beckner finished third. Shawn
Campbell finished fourth. Jim Reynolds finished fifth.
