600 Legends Show Out With Stancill Grabbing The Victory, Timmerman Takes Victory In Wild B-Mini Stock Race
By Tony M. Suttles

John Stancil photoIn preparation for the 600 Legends Regional qualifier race scheduled for Friday night August 10th the 600 Legends drivers showed off their talents during the race ran at the Anderson Motor Speedway on Friday night August 3, 2007. John Stancill, Wesley Thompson, and Justin Ashley battled each other repeatedly during the race with Stancill taking a narrow victory as the three crossed the finish line three wide. Stancill led the first lap with Ashley passing him on lap two for the lead. Stancill regained the lead on lap four but relinquished it one lap later to Thompson. Brian Weimer joined the fray at the end of lap five when he made a mad dash for the front and took over the second position. But Weimer had six cars on his bumper and it proved to be more than he could hold off. On lap six Stancill, Ashley, and John Gallman bypassed Weimer and dropped him to the fifth position quickly. At the end of lap nine Stancill closed on Thompson and regained the lead. For the next two laps Thompson and Ashley battled side by side which allowed Stancill a moment to catch his breath. But on lap twelve Ashley regained the second position and went after Stancil. Ashley made several bids for the lead the next six laps but Stancil held him at bay each time. Then Ashley made his move at the end of lap nineteen and drove under Stancill. The two were side by side as the white flag dropped. Then it appeared Stancill slowed and allowed Ashley the lead at the end of the front stretch and made his move as the three entered turn one. Ashley drifted up in turn one and Stancill, along with Thompson, drove by him. Thompson made a bid for the lead in turn three and Ashley joined the battle in turn four. Down the front stretch it was a three wide battle for the checkered flag. The top three crossed the finish line side by side with John Stancill declared the overall winner and the winner in the Semi Pro portion of the race. Wesley Thompson finished second and claimed the victory in the Pro portion of the race. Justin Ashley finished third. John Gallman finished fourth. Andrew Brown finished fifth. Brian Weimer finished sixth and claimed the victory in the Masters portion of the race.

Mark Timmerman photoMark Timmerman made a statement that he is still a force to be reckoned with when he claimed his sixth victory of the season in the B-Mini Stock race. Scott Hamby grabbed the lead at the start of the race while the polesitter, Chad Campbell, got sandwiched by several cars at the start of the race and went from the front of the field to the rear of the field. By the end of the lap David Darnell had taken control of the second position with Timmerman taking control of the third spot. The three ran bumper to bumper until lap seven when Darnell made his first bid for the lead. But as he did so down the backstretch Timmerman wanted the lead also and the top three were three wide. Timmerman had to let off quickly before all three were in the wall. On lap nine Darnell made another advance and once again Timmerman tried to make it three wide but both had to drop back into line when they ran up on a lapped car. Darnell made his third bid on the tenth lap and finally took the lead position at the end of the lap. Timmerman took the second position the next lap and went after Darnell on lap twelve. Timmerman grabbed the lead away from Darnell on lap thirteen but Darnell was not ready to concede. Darnell battled under Timmerman three times before the race ended and he put the bumper to Timmerman on a couple of laps trying to get him loose but in the end Timmerman thwarted all of Darnell’s advances and claimed the official victory. David Darnell finished second. Scott Hamby finished third. Chad Campbell worked his way back to the fourth place finish. Wayne Hammond finished fifth.

Shawn Campbell drove his heart out in the Renegade race but good luck became the deciding factor in his victory. Anthony Cordell led the first five laps of the race before Campbell bypassed him for the lead. Once out front Campbell began to pull away until lap ten when he got slowed down navigating lapped cars. Cordell was able to close on Campbell and the two ran side by side navigating the lapped traffic. At the end of the lap Campbell finally bypassed the final lapped car but as Cordell was passing the same car the lapped car turned into Cordell. Cordell hit the wall bounced off and was hit by another car but none of the cars stopped and a caution never appeared. Campbell led the final laps and received the checkered flag and the official victory. Ken Dillard moved to second following Cordell’s misfortune but failed to get close enough to Campbell to pressure him for the lead. Ken Dillard finished second. Justin Cone finished third. Bryan Beckner finished fourth. Chad Watt finished fifth.

Chuck Mitchell claimed the victory in the B-M Modified race but fate played a role in his victory. Mitchell started on the front of the field with his nemesis Matt Meyers starting at the rear of the field after Meyers came to the speedway late and missed the heat race. Chuck Mitchell grabbed the lead at the start of the race and pulled to a big lead while Meyers battled his way to the second position at the half way point. Meyers cut Mitchell’s lead in half but the laps ran out before he placed himself in contention for the victory. Matt Meyers finished second. Will Ragsdale finished third. Shawn Mize finished fourth. Randy Flanagan finished fifth.

For the first time this season Brandon Hendrix received the checkered flag and the official victory in the C-Mini Stock race. Hendrix led every lap of the race and held off Chad Stewart in order to seal the victory. Hendrix had previously recieved the checkered flag several times this season but on each occasion he failed to pass post race inspection. This is the second official victory of the season for Hendrix with his first coming when the on track winner failed to pass post race inspection. Chad Stewart finished second. Chad Black finished third. Jimmy Burgess finished fourth. Michael York finished fifth.

Austin Northcutt crossed the finish line in the fifth position during the C-Mini Stock race and claimed the victory in the Young Guns race since the two divisions competed together once again. Northcutt was battling for the overall second position with Chad Stewart when there was contact and Northcutt spun. Northcutt had to restart at the rear of the field but made his way back to the fifth position within a few laps. Northcutt held the position till the end of the race and claimed the Young Guns victory. Dylan Wages finished second in the Young Guns class. Austin Akers finished third.

Walter Whitaker won his seventh Banana Spectator race as he claimed the victory in the special race.
