Anderson - Yesterday marked one month that the Goss Construction, Inc. team has been onsite at Anderson Motor Speedway for the purpose of track revitalization. The revitalization process includes (asphalt) patching over one mile of erosion (cracks) in the surface followed by the process of shaving the surface for a smoother texture which will restore the track to a more tire-friendly surface.
The weather teased us a little two weekends ago (highs in the 60’s) and then turned right around and delivered 5 inches of RAIN (which has now become an ugly 4-letter word) on Monday followed by an entire week of cold temperatures. The moisture combined with the cold did not allow the team to get any asphalt down last week. Fortunately we were able to get 25 tons of asphalt down yesterday (Monday) before the wintery-mix rolled in this morning. Punxsutawney Phil was certainly dead on the money when he saw his shadow calling for 6 more weeks of winter.
As we embark on a new month we are hopeful that more seasonable temperatures will abound and that we can complete what we started over one month ago. The Season Opener looks as if it will be April – hopefully the beginning of the month, but we will certainly keep everyone abreast of developments. The Billboard Blitz is coming along nicely – at last count 9 new billboards have been sold. If you know any sponsor organizations who would like to help donate materials and/or labor for any of the renovation projects (concession updates, VIP Tower updates, fencing, etc) and I would love to get a playground equipment sponsor so that the kids would have a fun place to congregate (instead of the grass hills).
